Man’s Best Friend

The fragile old man opened the door to room 902 and was hit in the face with a waft of something foul. It was the first time anyone had been through that red door in weeks, which was probably because the inhabitant wasn't alive. Before I get too carried away with that I should probably start from the beginning of this shenanigan.

Kevin McCallister was your average, every day, 30 year old that still hangs out with his friends from school. He was average height with broad shoulders and big hands. Although built very well, he didn't chose a career correspondingly. He worked a desk job selling pharmaceutical products online and the only interactions he had with people were over email or on occasion with his few friends.

The day of the “accident” was just like any other day, except for when Kevin got to work there was a surprise for him at his desk. A large box was sitting under his desk, stopping him from putting his feet under it. He became confused immediately at who it could be from. Nobody who he worked with knew him and his friends didn't know where he worked. So who could it be from?

He didn't want to open it then, so he decided to wait until he gets home. He sat patiently at his desk doing basically nothing all day, and no one noticed. His boss was never around to tell him good job or bad job, it really didn't matter what he did during the day.

Now we can fast forward a bit to when he gets home. He had carried the box home and it seemed fairly heavy and whatever was inside seemed to move around. He sat down and looked at the box for a minute, it jumped and slid on the floor and made Kevin scared of opening it. He didn't have anything to lose so he cut the tape and slowly pulled back the flaps to reveal…. another box! He tore into that one immediately and this time a little yip comes and a puppy hops out. Kevin is shocked and scared, but at the same time overjoyed. He has never had a puppy and had always seen movies about dogs being a man’s best friend and Kevin was positive that that is how this was going to end. He had no one really close to him and the puppy could fill that role.

He went to the store on the corner to buy some supplies. He purchased everything he could think of that the dog would need and he could use to bond with the puppy. When he arrived home he was sad because the puppy had curled up at the foot of his bed.

He said, “Wake up Marley!” And the dog had no reaction, so he decided to just take a little snooze until the dog wakes up. Little did he know that the puppy was more than just a puppy.

He awoke with a startle and looked around to see that dog toys were strewn about the room. He felt a strange tingling sensation in his legs or leg I should say because he uncovered his body to gaze in horror at a blood soaked bed and the nubs he had for legs. They had been chewed off! He obviously panicked and searched frantically for the culprit. Kevin couldn't search too hard for the beast which he had thought to be a little cuddle machine, due to his handicap. He became very sleepy and leaned up against a wall and felt death creeping up on him. He heard a noise and stared in the direction of which it had came.

Around the corner came something ferocious and about 7 feet tall with long talons and jagged teeth, not an innocent little puppy. It towered over a defenseless Kevin and immediately grabbed him by the throat and squeezed the last of his life out of him.

The old man plugged his nose and walked into the room. The place was clean except for blood stains on the floor. No toys were in sight. Kevin was in a heap on the floor with no legs. The old man reeled back and saw than Kevin was holding a saw covered with dry blood. There was nothing else in the room that was strange except for a package, which was later opened to find a stuffed puppy inside. The conclusion was that Kevin went crazy and tortured himself, nobody noticed the dried red spots on the stuffed animal.
